The muons, sister
particles of the neutrinos in the CNGS beam-line, are to be detected in two locations: (1)
immediately after the hadron stop, (2) 67 m of molasse downstream of the first muon
detector. The energy 'filter' applied by the material upstream of the muon detectors lead
to an effective cut-off in muon energy at around 20-23 GeV in the first, 30-35 GeV in the
second muon detector station. The radial distribution of the expected muon flux, as
obtained in the simulations, are shown in the figure in units of 'muons per cm2
per 1013 protons on target'. |
