Last MBG magnet installed in TT41 - 21 September 2005

The CNGS proton beamline consists of 73 MBG deflection magnets, 20 QTG quadrupoles and 12 MDG correctors, 8 recuperated quadrupoles and 4 steering elements with larger aperture in the focusing section towards the target (for a detailed layout drawing, see HPGL file). The installation of the QTG started on 13 July 2005 and finished just one week later. Installation of the "normal" non-tilted MBG magnets was next, followed by the MDG correctors. Finally, the installation of the tilted MBGT ended with the last MBG magnet installed in the afternoon of 21 September 2005.

This very efficient installation sequence is followed by the installation of beam monitoring equipment, survey/alignment work, and the installation of the vacuum interconnects, bellows, pumping ports and the pumps. In parallel, remaining work on the electrical infrastructure needs to be completed. The special recuperated QTL/S quadrupoles and the MDSH/Vsteering elements upstream of the target will be installed during the second half of October 2005.
